NSDAP POLITICAL LEADER FLAG BEARER'S GORGET

The Political Leader flag bearer gorget was introduced in April 1939, for wear by the flag bearer at all political functions where the unit flag was to be carried in display. Political Leader flag bearers were not issued with identifying sleeve insignia, as were their military counterparts.
Stamped alloy gorget with a bronze wash. The half-moon shaped gorget measures roughly, 9" wide from upper tip to tip and, 4 1/2" tall. The gorget features a separate, stylized, bronze washed, embossed national eagle with outstretched wings mounted to the front center with a raised outer edge lip with an embossed, repeating, oak-leaf pattern. The reverse of the raised edge lip is rolled over and crimped at the back of the gorget. The reverse of the gorget has a mid-green wool covering (a few moth nips) and two extended chain hanger tabs to the top tips. One of the hanger tabs is well marked with an impressed RZM logo with dual circular borders and manufacturers code, "M1/120", indicating manufacture by Wilhelm Deumer, Ludenscheid. The gorget comes with a bronze washed, stamped alloy, thirty-two link suspension chain with dual wire retainers to each link securing them all together. The links alternate with embossed patterns of a stylized national eagle followed by a canted swastika encompassed by an open oak-leaf wreath. The reverse of the two bottom chain links have an impressed RZM logo with dual circular borders and manufacturers code, "M1/120". The gorget is in nice untouched condition.
