Third Reich Army Lion Head Sword w/Double-Etched Blade

Third Reich Army Lion Head Sword w/Double-Etched Blade. Paul Weyersberg, sword/wreath within double oval TM. Gilted brass hilt fittings show minor surface wear to highlights with portions of factory gilting remaining in the recesses of the lion head pommel with red glass eyes, plain backstrap with center medallion, knuckle-bow with raised, upper panel and oak leaf embellished ferrule. Crossguard features a hand-chased floral and geometric motif on the obverse langet with a lion head quillon. Black celluloid grip is perfect with no cracks or chips and is complete with triple twisted brass wire wrap. Plated double-etched blade measuring 33 1/8" in length grades excellent++/Near MINT, showing only faint runner marks with no nicks, lifting or graying, and is complete with tan leather blade buffer pad. Obverse blade features a 12 ¼" frosted panel with raised floral motif flanking a central panel of crossed swords. Reverse blade features a matching frosted panel with floral motif with central panel of military equipment, to include crossed cannon barrels, drums, swords, and flags. Both obverse and reverse etched panels retain 100% of the light gray background frosting. Steel scabbard retains approximately 99% of the black enamel, showing faint surface wear and a few tiny dings to the edges of the shell. Attached to the hilt is a Near MINT Fire Official's sword knot with black leather strap/bullion lines and aluminum/red crown/acorn with red acorn insert. This nice double-etched sword was originally sold by JRB&M in 1974 and recently purchased when the collection was sold.
