Third Reich Army Double-Etched Lion Head Sword
Third Reich Army Double-Etched Lion Head Sword. Carl Eickhorn (double oval) TM. This sword appears in the Eickhorn Kundendienst as Pattern No. 1695. Gilted brass hilt fittings show light surface wear with virtually 100% of gilting remaining in recesses of lion head pommel and opened-wing eagle crossguard. Pommel is complete with ruby eyes. Black celluloid grip shows overall surface wear with one small chip on upper reverse adjacent to backstrap. Triple twisted wire wrap is present. Plated blade measuring 32" in length grades excellent+/excellent++ with runner marks and light gray speckling on lower one-third of blade. Obverse blade features an etched floral pattern with center frosted panel featuring raised inscription, "In Dankbarer Erinnerung 1925-1935". Center panel retains 100% of light gray background frosting. Reverse blade features floral pattern with center frosted panel featuring raised inscription, "Polizei-Sport- Verein Essen 1922". Center panel retains 100% of its light gray background frosting. Spine of blade also features etched floral pattern. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 90% of its original black enamel which shows overall light surface wear and some crazing and minor missing towards tip and on drag. Sword is complete with Officer pattern portepee in excellent condition showing some wear to bullion stripes in leather strap. Beautiful example of a rare Third Reich double-etched Army sword!
